An angel was born in KC, KS., September 19,1962, he had Downe Syndrome, was partially deaf and completely adorable. Our parents wouldn’t hear of putting him in an institution like the doctors suggested, they told them, he will never mentally get older than 5, you will be lucky if he lives to 6, you already have 5 kids think how this will impact them. Mike by- passed all of those predictions. He was the most kind, funny, pleasant, well mannered, well loved son, brother, uncle, friend and individual in the entire world. His smile from ear to ear was infectious. God, put Mike on earth to teach all of us COMPASSION. Our family and everyone else were blessed to have him in their lives.
Mike went to a special school, worked hard and graduated with cap and gown, with family cheering him on. Mike was in Special Olympics winning numerous gold medals, he was in 4 different events. Dad started a special scout troop for him and others that was built just for them. Mike went camping and swimming with the family 2 weeks in Colorado every year. He snow skied, swam, bowled a mean game, enjoying the comradery especially, and worked. He loved cook outs and sm-ores oh and don’t forget beer. Mike loved going anytime, to family reunions, church, the show, fireworks, dancing, spending night with siblings, out to eat, meeting new people or just rides. He was the baby whisperer, many babies were rocked, talked to, played with, quieted and loved by him, but do not play with his things, he had things for kids to mess with but his items were his and you were not allowed to touch.
We wanted to teach Mike how to drive but mom put her foot down to that. Mike was raised like the rest of his siblings, he knew how to make up to mom to get out of punishments sometimes but other than those times he was perfect. He stayed at home until he was 40, going into his first group home where he lived for 9 years, 1 yr in Raytown and the last 4 in a nursing home, Meadow View of Harrisonville across the street from his mom. The nursing home and Serenity Hospice were a fantastic group that helped all of us.
Mike was proceeded in death by his Dad, Donald and his oldest Sister Linda.
