Melissa Ashlee McCoy-Moretine (Missy) of Garden City passed away on December 3rd, 2022 after fighting her long journey with cancer.
She is proceeded in death by her stepmother and best friend Melissa McCoy, her maternal grandfather Wayne Kershner, and great grandparents on both sides of the family. She leaves behind a husband Chris, a stepdaughter Kinsley, her parents Mike McCoy (Rita), and Vicki Kershner, three siblings Jason McCoy (Heather), Brittany Dawn (Brett), Morgan McCoy (Heidi), multiple grandparents, family, and seven spoiled cows.
Missy’s early life was defined by excellence in athletics and success in academics which led to earning her bachelor’s degree from Northwest Missouri State University. Her youth was full of family trips and vacations with friends.
Missy’s life was not always easy, but it was definitely full of joy. If there was no joy in a place and Missy arrived her big, beautiful smile and contagious laugh would change that instantly. While her later years were encompassed by struggle and pain, it was never her definition.
There are many qualities that could be used to describe her but all would fall short in their use. She was a fiercely loyal, selfless, and driven woman. She loved her friends and family with everything she had.
While facing extreme odds, Missy managed to find love and joy every moment of her life over the hardest part of her battle with cancer. She lived courageously and headfirst in everything she did. Missy lived in one speed and that was FAST, without hesitation and no second guessing.
Missy found joy in spending time with her nieces, nephews, and young cousins, but her greatest joy was having the privilege to step into such an important role to help raise and care for Kinsley.
Missy’s favorite escape was her hobby farm. She took great pride in each and every animal. She had cows, highland cows, several dogs, a cat, and even a hedgehog. Every single animal had a name, along with a place in her heart.
Though Missy’s life here on earth has ended, all the people she has touched will live on and radiate that same light that she used to make us all better people, and this world a better place.
