Ralph Allan Chambers, 64, of Creighton, Missouri, was born on August 7, 1948 to Ralph E. (Blackie) Chambers and Beaulah W. (Bea) Carlock Chambers, in Topeka, Kansas.
He was raised in the Kansas City area and attended high school in Raytown, Missouri where he met his sweetheart, Mary Lou Gregg. Ralph joined the Navy in 1966, where he obtained his GED and would remain for the next 8 years, serving several cruises on aircraft carriers and finishing several years of college.
Ralph and Mary Lou were married on May 29, 1967 and were married for 45 years. Ralph loved to remind people that "everyone said it wouldn't last." They had a son, Donnie A. Chambers and a daughter, Lisa M. Chambers.
Ralph worked as a welder and metal fabricator for many years until a 5-way bypass forced him into retirement.
Ralph had a lifelong love affair with motorcycles and spent many years building and riding them. He and Mary Lou made 29 trips to Sturgis, South Dakota, where they enjoyed visiting with friends from all over the country, which is where they were when Ralph got sick this summer. He was hospitalized in Sturgis, flown by Lear Jet to Minneapolis VA for several weeks and then flown on to Kansas City VA. Ralph returned home where he recuperated until Sunday, October 7, when he was again hospitalized at Kansas City VA. On Thursday, October 11, 2012, Ralph had a massive heart attack and could not be revived.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of the home; his son Donnie and his wife Michelle of Creighton; his daughter Lisa and her fiance Ken Sevy of Creighton; 3 granddaughters, Bethany, Lindsey and Jessica; and 1 grandson, Trajun; his sister, Rita DeShazo of Independence, MO; brother, Kevin Chambers and his wife Gloria of Louisville, IL; his nieces and nephews; other extended family; and many friends.
Ralph will be sorely missed for his larger-than-life personality, his sense of humor, and as one friend recently put it, "his thankfully political incorrectness".
Go rest high on your mountain, Ralph, and we will see you on the other side.
A Celebration Of Life Service was held Monday, October 15, 2012 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri. Cremation with inurnment in Parker Cemetery near Creighton, Missouri.
