Ret. TSgt. Bobby Joe Thornburg of Adrian, Missouri was born August 14, 1934 near Creighton, Missouri the son of Marion Garfield and Ruth Adeline (Miller) Thornburg. He departed this life Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at his home near Adrian at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 22 days.
On March 31, 1956, Bobby Joe was united in marriage to Charlene Frances Bell in Hickman Mills, Missouri.
Bobby Joe was a Technical Sergeant for United States Air Force serving during the Korean War and Vietnam until his retirement on October 1, 1972. Later, he was employed by Ford Tractor, Butler, Missouri and was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of the Baptist Church, Boston, Missouri and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association. Bobby Joe enjoyed his family, the outdoors and fishing. He grew up in Boston, Missouri and had lived in Texas, Virginia, North Carolina and Las Vegas, Nevada until moving to Adrian in 1970.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Robert Thornburg and a son-in-law, Bill Klumb.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene F. Thornburg of the home; two daughters, Linda L. Klumb, San Antonio, Texas, Bobbie J. Christman and husband, James, Harrisonville, Missouri; four granddaughters, Melissa, Amanda, Holly and Kyla; four great-grandchildren; P.J., Shane, Kadence and Aubree; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association and may be left at the funeral home.
