Richard Flint

August 27, 1921 — February 22, 2007

Richard Thomas Flint, of Garden City, Missouri, was born August 27, 1921 in Harrison County, Missouri, the son of Glenn A. and Verla (Martin) Flint. He departed this life Thursday, February 22, 2007, at Golden Years Care Services, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 5 months and 25 days.
Richard grew up in Harrison County on a farm and attended rural grade schools and was a graduate of Bethany High School. After high school, he enrolled in a Sheet Metal School in Kansas City, Missouri and after graduation he was employed by Douglas Aircraft Plant in Santa Monica, California.
On February 16, 1940, Richard was united in marriage to Ruby Charlene Grisamore in Princeton, Missouri. He moved to California, she finished her education and was a teacher and later moved to California. Richard moved back to Missouri and was a farmer until he was drafted into the Army during World War II, where he was sent to Germany and served in the CIC Corp.
After he was discharged, he farmed for a little while until he moved to Grandview and was employed at Bendix in Kansas City, Missouri. Later Richard was employed at Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, Independence, Missouri until his retirement in 1983 when they moved to some acreage near Garden City. Richard was a member of the Dayton Community Church, Dayton, Missouri, the Index Masonic Lodge #54 A.F. & A.M. and Order of Eastern Star #340 both of Garden City. He was a dual member of the Grandview Masonic Lodge and Ararat Legion of Honor Group of the Shrine and Garden City Eastern Star. After his retirement he drove the Shrine Van and took parents and their children to the hospital in St. Louis. In his spare time, he loved to fish and hunt with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Barnes on December 26, 2004; two sisters, Mary Larena Bowman and Margaret Flint; a brother, George B. Flint.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Flint of the home; a daughter, Nancy Agans and husband Ron, Garden City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Zane, Craig, Leslie, Troy and Jennifer; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a niece; several nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 26, 2007 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Shrine Hospital's for Children, or Friendship Meals of Garden City, Missouri.
