Robert Bruce Officer of Harrisonville, Missouri was born September 1, 1928 in Springfield, Missouri the son of Bert and Avilla (Suttles) Officer. He departed this life on Monday, September 16, 2013 at Wilshire at Lakewood, Lee’s Summit, Missouri surrounded by love and family at the age of 85 years and 15 days.
On February 3, 1951 Robert was united in marriage to Evelyn Loretta Crass in Independence, Missouri.
He spent his young life in Aurora and Grain Valley, MO . He continued a full active life after having Polio at the age of 15. He was a sports enthusiast and played trumpet in the school band. He enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball with the “Rolling Pioneer’s”. Robert was employed in the civil service for Richards Gebaur Air Force Base in Belton, Missouri before his retirement in 1977. He farmed, coached many years at Archie’s summer baseball leagues, was involved in Scouts with his sons and grandsons, made fishing lures and did small engine repair. After retirement, he enjoyed full time farming, ceramics and woodworking. Robert was of the Catholic faith. Robert and Evelyn had lived in Independence before moving to Harrisonville in 1962. Since 1999, they had been snow birds spending their winters in Texas.
Besides his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn on September 30, 2012; his brother, Bill.
Robert is survived by three sons, Mike Officer and wife, Barb, Weldon Springs, Missouri, David Officer and wife, Lisa, Ozark, Missouri, Jerry Officer and wife, Nancy, Bosworth, Missouri; a daughter, Judy Wendel and husband, Bill, Harrisonville, Missouri; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenny Officer, Marionville, Missouri; other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Cremation with inurment in the Maple Park Cemetery, Aurora, Missouri.
