Robert Glenn ?Bob? Plank of Garden City, Missouri was born November 23, 1921 north of Garden City the son of Oliver Joy and Ida Theresa (Schrock) Plank. He departed this life on Sunday, August 9, 2009 at Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 16 days. On January 25, 1948 Bob was united in marriage to Lillian Northup (Bartlett) Beckstead and moved to the Kropf farm northeast of Garden City. He later married Erma Ardis (Hutson) Klopfenstein on November 20, 1993 in Garden City. Bob was a farmer and stockman until his retirement in 1998. He took special pride in raising Le Darno Holstein cattle. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Garden City. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving from 1942 until 1945 in the Phillipines and Okinawa. He was a member of the NRA, the Index Masonic Lodge #54 A.F. & A.M., the VFW Post #4409, Harrisonville, Missouri. Bob attended Clearfork Rural School and the Garden City High School. He enjoyed farming, fishing, hunting and gun collecting. In later years, he spent time woodworking, playing cards and attending Senior Citizens dances. Bob was a lifelong area resident. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian on December 3, 1992; four brothers, Clayton, Roy, Stanley and Gerald; two sisters, Jewell Plank and Glada Riffle; two sons-in-law, Dick Bird and Darrell Wilson; a step-grandson, Michael Bird. He is survived by his wife, Erma A. Plank of the home; his sister, Alberta Schindler, Harrisonville, Missouri; four step-daughters, Darlene Riffle and husband, Walter, Harrisonville, Missouri, Nora Wilson, Kansas City, Missouri, Brenda Monroe and husband, Phil, Springfield, Missouri, Janet Pratt and husband, Ed, Kearney, Nebraska; 13 step-grandchildren; 21 step-great-grandchildren; several step-great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Bob will be remembered for his strength during hard times, his love of family and friends and many, many ?Plank Pranks?. Funeral services will be held Friday, August 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
Family will receive friends Thursday, August 13, 2009 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
