Robert William Murphy, of Harrisonville, Missouri, was born May 21, 1916 in White Church, Missouri the son of Robert and Mary (Mason) Murphy. He departed this life Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the Crown Care Center, Harrisonville at the age of 95 years, 6 months and 13 days. On August 22, 1936, Robert was united in marriage to Bertha Burdena Newberry in West Plains, Missouri.
Robert owned and operated Murphy Saw Mill, West Plains, Missouri before moving to Harrisonville in 1964 where he was employed as a welder for the Allis Chalmers Plant in Independence, Missouri. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, East Lynne, Missouri and the Harrisonville Lion’s Club. When he was younger, Robert enjoyed target shooting and was an expert marksman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Burdena on April 19, 2006; a grandson, Richard Murphy; a brother, Clarence Murphy; a sister, Geneva Bailey; a step-brother, Rex Sullivan; a step-sister, Marie White.
Robert is survived by three sons, Gary D. Murphy and wife Linda, Harrisonville, Missouri; Barry G. Murphy and wife Mary, Creighton, Missouri, Robert D. Murphy and wife Steph, Peculiar, Missouri; two daughters, Brenda Bridges, Las Vegas, Nevada, Janet C. Murphy, Harrisonville, Missouri; 7 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri. Burial will be in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville, Missouri.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
