Roy E. Gregg

Roy Eugene Gregg of Creighton, Missouri was born October 26, 1924 in Creighton, the son of Ora L. and Anna Barbara (Meyer) Gregg. He departed this life on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at Brookdale Foxwood Springs Living Center, Raymore, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 3 months and 7 days.
On October 16, 1954, he was united in marriage to Betty Jo Dody in Clinton, Missouri.
Roy was a Federal Postal Inspector for the United States Postal Service in Washington, D.C. He and his family also lived in Bridgeport, West Virginia and Silver Springs, Maryland before he retired in 1971 to return to Creighton. After retirement, Roy became a farmer, stockman, accountant, and owned and operated an insurance agency with his wife.
At age 18, Roy enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a fighter pilot nicknamed, ?School boy,? because he was the youngest in his unit. He flew 40 missions in a P-47 Thunderbolt.
Roy was an Elder at the First Christian Church of Creighton, a member of the Creighton Lions Club, American Legion Post, Urich, Missouri, Index Masonic Lodge #54 AF & AM, Garden City, Missouri and the National Association of Retired Postal Employees. He was a 1943 graduate of Creighton High School and played for the celebrated basketball team that twice went to the state tournament. He attended Missouri University, and Central Missouri State Teachers College where he played basketball.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty who died on April 3, 1993; an infant daughter, Susan Lynne Gregg and his brother, Ray Gregg.
Roy is survived by three sons, Michael E. Gregg and wife, Phyllis, Raymore, Missouri; William N. Gregg and wife, Patricia, Superior, Colorado, Jeffrey M. Gregg and wife, Kristi, Columbia, Missouri; his daughter, Leanne Gregg-Freeman and husband, Carter, Superior, Colorado; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, MO with burial in the Parker Cemetery near Creighton.
Family suggests memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association.
