Roy Shifflett

Roy L. Pete Shifflett of Parkville, Missouri, died Thursday, April 12, at North Kansas City Hospital of a probable pulmonary embolism. He was 52.
Pete was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, Rising Sun Lodge #13. He was a past Worshipful Master and was serving as treasurer of the building board at the time of his death. In 1996, Pete was Round Robin Regional winner. He was presented with the annual Mason of the Year award from the Brethren of Rising Sun on September 5, 1998 for outstanding service to all lodges and for his contributions to his own lodge.
He received many professional commendations as well; from United Airlines in Denver, Colorado, PARS Service (now Worldspan) and American Century Investment Services, both of Kansas City. Pete had a gift for information technology. Although he was self taught, computers were a life-long vocation as well as avocation. He also was an avid musician. He played guitar, sang, and was developing a new recording studio when he died. He also loved to cook.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Katherine R. Picraux Shifflett; also by three grandparents and several aunts and uncles, including T. J. Picraux. He is survived by his beloved and loving wife Carol of the home and by two sisters, Sharon Kay McPhail of Kansas City, and Frances Jane (Dolly) Shifflett of Marshall, Missouri; by his beloved nephew Aaron Pete and wife Rebecca Chamberlain, and nephew and niece Andrew Isaac and Rachel Catherine Nelson. He is also survived by brothers-in-law John and Joseph Nelson and Joes wife Janet; by his grandmother Georgia Shifflett Dewey of Atchison, Kansas, by many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and by numerous friends around the world. We will miss him so much.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Church of the Redeemer, 7110 N State Rte. 9, Kansas City, Missouri.
Memorial donations may be made to Childrens Mercy Hospital of Kansas City for the treatment of brain injuries and may be left at the funeral home.
