Ruth N. Lawson, 71, of Linn Valley, KS passed away March 6, 2006. She was born August 15, 1934 to Holger and Myrtle (Treas) Danielsen in Kansas City, KS. After her fathers untimely death, she and two of her brothers were raised by her aunt, Nanna Danielsen, who preceded her, in Bisserup, Denmark and later Waterville, KS. She graduated from Waterville High School. She married Richard A. Kurzava, who preceded her, and raised four children with him in Kansas City, MO. In 1985 she married William E. (Bill) Lawson and had 20 wonderful years together. They lived in Grandview, MO and Meridian, MS until she retired from the IRS after 28 years of service and then lived between two homes in Lillian, AL and East Lynn, MO, then Linn Valley. Ruth and Bill loved to travel and spent their retired years exploring the U.S., and with their many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was involved with numerous organizations within the church wherever she lived and touched many lives. She had been a member of the ABWA, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and the Historical Society of Kansas City. Ruth loved antiquing, gardening, bridge, and was very artistic and creative. She had a great appreciation for history and architecture. Ruth and Bill brought two families together when they married and Ruth loved everyone unconditionally. She will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her father and mother, half-brother Chet Henley, half-sister Francis Uhl, and brother Donald Danielsen. Survivors include a brother Norman Danielsen (Lola) of Randolph, KS; sons Mark Kurzava of Phoenix, AZ; Kevin Kurzava (Stephani) of Kansas City, MO; and Bruce Kurzava of Lees Summit, MO; and daughter Amy Arbuckle of Lees Summit, MO; six grandchildren, Daniel (Treasure), Jennifer, Lauren, Benjamin, Elaine, and Alexander; great-granddaughter Madison; four step-children: Dan Lawson (Candy), Bill Lawson (Nancy), Becky Boyd, and Brenda Erwin (Bruce); seven step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins in the U.S. and Denmark.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Mo. with cremation and inurnment in Salem Cemetery, Independence, Mo.
Family suggests contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital.
