Salvatore Scavuzzo, 88, of Harrisonville, Missouri, departed this life on November 8, 2014, at the Kansas City Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.
Salvatore was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on February 17, 1926, to Santo and Maria “Maggie” Scavuzzo. Salvatore graduated from Harrisonville High School in 1944 and immediately began his service in the Army Air Corps. A lifelong resident of Harrisonville, Missouri, he married Hazel “Tootie” Lathrop in 1948. They celebrated 64 years of marriage before her death in 2012. Salvatore and his four brothers owned Scavuzzo’s Supermarket which served Cass County for over 70 years. He was a longtime member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church and an active member of the community.
Salvatore was preceded in death by his beloved Tootie, his parents, three brothers (Cosmo, Anthony, and Joe), two sisters (Faustina and Ida), and infant grandson (Gian-Carlo).
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Lydia Scavuzzo, son Greg Scavuzzo, grandchildren Danielle Scavuzzo and Salvatore Scavuzzo, brother and sister-in-law Luke and Sissy Scavuzzo, all of Cass County, Missouri, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Salvatore will be remembered by his children and grandchildren as a most thoughtful and genuinely kind person. Perhaps, above all, he was funny. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh. He was a constant in their lives, and his absence leaves a void that is too great to put into words. Dad, Grandpa, we love you. We miss you already and always. . .
The family received friends Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the Dickey Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kansas City Hospice House or to the St. Peter's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund.
