Sam King

Sammy Joe “Sam” King, of Garden City, Missouri was born December 14, 1927 on a farm near East Lynne, Missouri the son of Clyde Everett and Laura Verena (Dale) King. He departed this life on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at the Cass Regional Medical Center, Harrisonville, Missouri at the age of 85 years, 7 months and 11 days.
On December 27, 1950, Sam was united in marriage to Arlene Coleman at the Garden City Baptist Church.
Sam was employed as a manager for Suburban Propane in Harrisonville until his retirement in 1993 and ealier by Skelgas, Garden City. He was a graduate of the Garden City High School. Sam faithfully attended and served at the Heart of Life Church and helped build the new church. Sam served on the Garden City Park Board and the Ball Association, Fire Department Board, Garden City Ambulance District, City Council and was Mayor of Garden City and was a charter member and currently served on the Garden City Senior Housing. He was “Mr. Fix-it” because he could fix anything and did so for anyone who asked.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Cummins; two brothers, Bob King and Clyde King Jr.
Sam is survived by his wife, Arlene King of the home; a son, Kevin King and wife Connie, Garden City, Missouri; a daughter, Cindy Neumeyer and husband Norman, Independence, Missouri; a grandson, Jeremy King and wife Deedra; two great-granddaughters, Sierra and Mackenzie; a brother, Richard King, East Lynne, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 29, 2013 at the Heart of Life Church, Garden City, Missouri with burial in the Garden City Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dickey Funeral Home, Garden City, Missouri.
