Shirley Marie Hawkins

Shirley Marie Hawkins, 83, of Holden, Missouri, was born Monday, July 16, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Harry Franklin and Josephine Helen (Bish) Axton. She departed this life at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, November 28, 2011 at her daughter’s home surrounded with love and family
In 1953 she was united in marriage to Harlis Harold Hawkins. He preceded her in death in 2006.
Shirley worked for the Missouri Federation for the Blind Thrift Store in Independence for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother Eddie Axton.
She is survived by two sons Harold Hawkins and Michael (and Jennifer) Hawkins of Independence; five daughters Glenda (and Ronnie) Cantrell of Sugar Creek, Helen Hawkins of Independence, Carolann (and Randy) Mullins of Texas, Patricia Laycox of Silver Lake, Wisconsin, and Earlina (and Robert) Mathews of Holden, Missouri; two sisters Margaret Ann Jacobs of Raytown, and Sharon (and Norm) Veagley of Kirkwood; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 2, 2011, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Brother Richard Wheeler will officiate. Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery, Kansas City. Casket bearers are Freddie Hawkins, Harold Hawkins, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Michael Hawkins, Robert Mathews, Jr. and Michael Mitchell.
