Shirley Lucille Poisal of Harrisonville, Missouri was born on July 13th, 1949 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Leo Virgil Beasley and Ruby May (Owens) Beasley. She departed this life on Wednesday, November 27th at Kansas University Health Systems, Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 75 years.
She married Melvin Lee Poisal Sr on October 4th, 1982 in Miami, Oklahoma with a honeymoon in New Orleans to follow. They celebrated 42 years of marriage in October 2024 and fulfilled their marriage vows of in sickness and in health to her very last breath. Shirley stood by Melvin's side and provided him with great care as he received a life saving kidney transplant on April 20th, 2023 and Melvin stayed by her bedside until well after she took her last breath in the early morning hours of November 27th.
Shirley would often say her greatest accomplishment was raising her children. She was proud of all of them, their spouses and loved her grandchildren more than words could ever express. Shirley rarely missed an event that involved her grandkids whether it be grandparents day, a sporting event, a concert or a recital. She loved to have a good seat and in the rare event that she had to miss, she always requested that you take a video and send it to her. She beamed with pride whenever any of her grandkids were mentioned and loved to be overly accommodating to their wishes, including regular requests of eating whip cream straight out of a can and endless treats.
Shirley loved to travel and had been fortunate enough to visit 46 states, Mexico, Canada and go on several cruises. She ensured that there was always a family vacation at least once a year and often traveled with her grown kids and their families. Out of all of her travels, her favorite place to go was Branson, Missouri. She had been a season ticket holder to Silver Dollar City for many years, enjoyed staying in her camper and especially loved it when she was able to bring her grandkids along with her.
Shirley was special in the fact that she loved to make other people feel special, welcome and included. She always welcomed anyone into her family with open arms. She always had extra gifts hiding in the closet so no one would ever be without. She liked to make treat bags for special holidays and as recently as October had made goodie bags for her chemo and radiation team. She always made to much food for every gathering and then would say that she'd rather make to much than run out. She celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, every single holiday (even the minor ones), sporting events and even movie premieres. She was known for her love of blow mold holiday decorations and each Christmas, her light display could be seen from several miles away. She had a special outfit (sometimes more than one) for every occasion. She loved crafting and creating and was talented in everything she tried including crocheting, jewelry making, sewing, scrapbooking, and more.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her husband, Melvin; her children: Sonia Leslie; Dave Riggs and wife Shari; Virgil Riggs and wife Lisa; John Riggs and wife Jana; Cathe Johnson and husband Garry; Aaron Poisal and fiancé April and P.J. Poisal; grandchildren: Codie Leslie, Kayla Riggs, Elizabeth Riggs, Mackenzie Leslie, Nathaniel Riggs, Brayden Johnson, Emma Johnson, Kylie Johnson, Justin Poisal, Isabella Poisal, Ashlynn Poisal, John Michael Poisal, and Samantha Martin; her sisters: Viola McCandless and husband Richard, Wilma Dalzell and husband Robert and Margaret Coe and husband Jerry; and Sister in Laws: Janice Brindle and Holly Morris. In addition, she was a great grandmother, a great aunt, an aunt, a cousin, a friend, a second mom and grandma to many and loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
There are no shoes to fill and instead a legacy to fulfill.
