Stephen James Hayes, of Pittsburg, Kansas, was born December 24, 1984 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Leo Richard and Freda Jane (Wingate) Hayes. He departed this life Saturday, February 11, 2006, in a house fire in Pittsburg at the age of 21 years, 1 month and 17 days.
Stephen was employed as an electrician for Superior Industries, Pittsburg, Kansas since July 2005. He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville. Stephen was a 2003 graduate of Raymore-Peculiar High School, and a 2005 graduate of Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas with an Associate's Degree in Electrical Technology. He was a licensed pilot, a scuba diver, loved to hunt and be outdoors.
Stephen was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edward and Henrietta Hayes and James and Elsie Wingate.
He is survived by his parents, Leo and Freda Hayes, Peculiar, Missouri; two sisters, Sara Hayes, who is a student at Pittsburg State University, Jennifer Wilson and husband, Derek, Faucett, Missouri; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral Mass was held Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Harrisonville, Missouri with burial in the Orient Cemetery, Harrisonville.
