Sylvia Alene Mapes of Spring Hill, Kansas was born December 29, 1929 in Independence, Missouri the daughter of Wellington Tillman and Ruth Irene (Rader) Maupin. She departed this life on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her son’s home near Garden City, Missouri at the age of 84 years.
On October 26, 1952 Sylvia was united in marriage to George Edwin Mapes in Kansas City, Missouri.
Sylvia was a homemaker and was the best mom and grandmother in the world. She was also known as the cookie maker for all who knew her. Sylvia had lived in Garden City before moving to Spring Hill.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George on February 3, 2003; a brother, Bud Maupin and a sister, Wilma Huntsman.
Sylvia is survived by three sons, Michael L. Mapes, Charleston, South Carolina, Matt Mapes and wife Sally, Garden City, Missouri, Robert A. Mapes and wife Carol, Spring Hill, Kansas; daughter Gwen Zeigler and husband Tim, St. Charles, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wellington Tillman “Dink” Maupin Jr., Independence, Missouri; other relatives and many friends. Cremation. No services scheduled.Final arrangements are under the direction of Cass County Cremation Service, Harrisonville, Missouri.
