Vernon Earl Breckenridge

Vernon Earl Breckenridge, 79, of Pleasant Hill, was born Wednesday, October 25, 1933, in Raytown, Missouri, the son of Earnest Earl and Georgia Ruth (McGinnis) Breckenridge. He departed this life at 12:45 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2013, at the John Knox Village Care Center Hospice House surrounded with love and family.
Vernon was a 1951 Pleasant Hill High School graduate.
On January 3, 1953, he was united in marriage to Sharon Ruth Foote in Silom Springs, Arkansas.
Vernon was employed as a Maintenance Foreman for the Rock Island, the Union Pacific, and Southern Pacific railroads, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church and was a member and secretary of the Maintenance of Way rail road Union.
He was an avid pool player earning several trophies for his play. He also loved boating, gardening and Bar-B-Que.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Vernon is survived by his wife Sharon of the home; four children, Gary (and Glenda) Breckenridge of Olathe, Kansas, Gayle (and Ozzie) Wenich of Independence, Missouri, Roger (and Paula) Breckenridge of Pleasant Hill, and John (and Patty) Breckenridge of Blue Springs; one sister, Barbara (and Jim) Alexander of Pleasant Hill; 10 Grandchildren; 10 Great grandchildren; other relatives; and many friends.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 31, 2013, at the Stanley-Dickey Funeral Home. Reverend D. Kent Deubner minister of the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church will officiate. Reverend Tony Reynolds of the Appleton City First Christian Church will sing. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers are Ben Breckenridge, Brandon Breckenridge, Brian Breckenridge, Phillip Fleming, Kirk Thomas, and Daniel Wiggins.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pleasant Hill First Christian Church and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
