William R. “Bill” Nixon died Saturday, May 25th, 2024, at the age of 86 after a brief illness.
Bill was preceded in death by his father William “Nick” Nixon, his mother Alice Nixon and a brother, the Rev. James Nixon.
Bill is survived by his wife Joan Nixon, daughter Cheri Farnsworth (Keith), son Chip Nixon (Nancy), daughter Wendy Brown and his sister Nancy Eckman (Mark). Bill was blessed with nine grandchildren: Ryan and Trevor Farnsworth, Shelby Nixon, Cameron and Paige Booth, Caitlin, Cara, Molly and Jacob Brown and five great grandchildren: Bentley Booth, Jesse Moreno, Henry and Charlie Booth and Zoe Farnsworth.
Bill spent his entire career with Ford Motor Company, but his heart was always on his beloved farm, riding his tractor, walking the pastures and spending time with his cows.
Bill’s greatest love in life was his wife, Joan. Having gone to the same grade school, Bill and Joan began dating in high school and were just shy of celebrating 67 years of marriage at the time of his death. Theirs was truly a love story that no novel, TV series or movie would ever be able to get right. Completely devoted to one another, they raised a wonderful family together and taught them the true meaning of love and family.
Bill was a true Southern gentleman who never met a stranger. He had a fabulous sense of humor, and you knew how much Bill adored you by the amount of teasing he would subject you too. You never knew quite what would come out of Bill’s mouth, but it was always said with love. His kindness and selflessness were legendary. Bill was without a doubt one of the finest men you could ever hope to meet.
Often upon leaving, Bill would say “I’m glad you got to see me!” Your passing has left us with a hole that can never be filled, but we will always be blessed and thankful that we got to “see you”. Rest in Peace, we love you so much.
